Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Shipping Manager to oversee all aspects of outbound logistics in our lumberyard. The Shipping Manager will be responsible for coordinating the timely and accurate delivery of lumber and building materials to customers, managing a team of drivers, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and establishing efficient operations in the lumberyard.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and schedule daily outbound shipments to ensure timely deliveries to customers and job sites
• Supervise, mentor, and provide ongoing training to a team of drivers to enhance team performance
• Work closely with sales and yard staff to prioritize urgent orders and resolve delivery issues
• Monitor and maintain fleet readiness, coordinate vehicle maintenance, and ensure DOT compliance
• Train and enforce safety protocols and company policies in all shipping operations
• Optimize delivery routes and loads for cost-efficiency and timely service
• Communicate effectively with customers and internal departments regarding deliveries and logistics
• Coordinate customer returns to ensure timeliness and accuracy
• Address and resolve transportation-related issues, such as delays, damages, and customer complaints in a timely and effective manner
• Monitor transportation expenses and implement strategies to reduce costs while maintaining quality service
• Identify areas for improvement in the shipping process and implement changes to enhance efficiencies

Qualifications:

• Associate or bachelor degree in logistics or related field preferred
• 3+ years of experience in shipping/receiving, logistics, or transportation management - preferably in a lumberyard, building supply, or similar industrial environment
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Knowledge of DOT regulations, truck logistics, and load safety requirements
• Forklift certification and experience with heavy material handling
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
